This is the complete list of BPSC essay topics set in the Mains essay paper of the 68th, 69th, 70th and 71st Combined Competitive Examinations, exactly as they appeared, section by section. BPSC introduced the essay paper with the 68th CCE Mains (2023), and the pattern has stayed the same since: three sections with four topics each, one essay to be written from each section. Section I takes abstract and philosophical themes, Section II takes current social, economic and political issues, and Section III asks you to build an essay around a Bhojpuri, Maithili or Magahi proverb, a part unique to BPSC. Reading four years of topics together is the fastest way to see what the Commission likes to ask.

What the four years of topics tell you
- Section I rewards range, not jargon. Mindset and destiny, moral courage, love and knowledge, thought as the base of life: these need examples from history, science and daily life, and a clear personal position.
- Section II tracks the year’s news. De-dollarisation and the Middle East (71st), national security and corruption (70th), NEP 2023 and climate change in agriculture (69th), Covid and education (68th). Keep a one-page note on each big theme of the year with two or three figures.
- Section III is about interpretation. The proverb is a prompt, not the subject: “Je kara lathi okara bhains” (whoever holds the stick owns the buffalo) invites an essay on power and justice, “Akela chana bhad na fori sakela” (a single gram cannot crack the furnace) one on collective action. Open by explaining the proverb in plain words, then build the argument with examples from Bihar.
- Practice format: three essays of about 700 to 800 words each in three hours means roughly 55 minutes per essay, including five minutes of planning. Rehearse that clock.
