Bihar Current Affairs 2026: New Government, Awards, and Infrastructure Developments
❖ New Government in Bihar:
Samrat Choudhary was sworn as the 24th chief minister of Bihar on 15th April, 2026.
- • Oath ceremony held at Lok Bhawan, Patna, administered by Governor Syed Ata Hasnain.
- • Bijendra Prasad Yadav (JDU) and Vijay Kumar Chaudhary (JDU) sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers.
- • Samrat Choudhary:
- ➢ Born on 16 November 1968 in Lakhanpur, Munger district, Bihar.
- ➢ Father: Shakuni Choudhary (6-time MLA, Tarapur)
- ➢ Became youngest minister in the Rabri Devi government as Agriculture Minister (1999). Political start from Samata Party.
- ➢ Elected MLA from Parbatta on an RJD ticket (2000). But election declared void by court in 2003. Again MLA from Parbatta in 2010 & became Chief Whip of Opposition Party.
- ➢ Joined JD(U); served as Urban Development & Housing Minister (2014) in the Jitan Ram Manjhi government.
- ➢ Founding member of Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (2015)
- ➢ Served in the Bihar Legislative Council (2014–16, 2020–25) & as Leader of Opposition.
- ➢ Joined BJP in 2017; became Bihar BJP President (2023).
- ➢ Served as Deputy CM of Bihar (Jan 2024–Apr 2026) before becoming Chief Minister (2026).
- ➢ Currently MLA from Tarapur constituency (2025 Bihar Assembly elections)
❖ 17th Vishwakarma Awards 2026:
Bihar’s Building Construction Department received in the “Achievement Award for Best Construction Projects” category for two projects: Bapu Tower, Gardanibagh, Patna and Buddha Samyak Darshan Sangrahalaya and Smriti Stupa, Vaishali.
- ➢ Bihar’s previous winners: Samrat Ashok Convention Centre and Anjuman Islamia Hall (both by Building Construction Dept).
- ➢ Bapu Tower: Located at Gardanibagh, Patna; dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology
- ➢ Buddha Samyak Darshan Sangrahalaya: Vaishali (Site of the Second Buddhist Council, 383 BCE; birthplace of Lord Mahavira)
❖ Bihar Cabinet approved setting up a dedicated Research Park at IIT Patna.
❖ President Droupadi Murmu approved the President’s Police Colour Award
(also called ‘Nishaan’) for Bihar Police in April 2026, the highest honour awarded to any police organisation in India.
- ➢ First police force to receive it: CRPF (by Sardar Patel in 1950)
- ➢ When President is absent, Home Minister or Vice President presents it.
❖ Day-Care Centres for Thalassemia & Haemophilia:
Bihar to set up special centres in 6 government medical colleges with integrated free treatment, including blood transfusions, essential medicines, Sickle cell anaemia and specialist consultations under one roof; The 6 Designated Institutes: PMCH Patna; AIIMS Patna; SKMCH Muzaffarpur; JLNMCH Bhagalpur; GMC, Purnia; ANMMCH Gaya
❖ Bihar Horticulture Directorate:
won the Golden Peacock Innovative Product/Service Award 2026 for its work on the Makhana value chain.
- ➢ Makhana (Fox Nut / Euryale ferox): 90% produced in India; GI tag; Under ODOP
❖ Bihar’s First High-Speed Corridor (National Expressway-9):
250 km, six-lane, greenfield expressway; starts at Mirnagar Arezi, Hajipur (NH-22) → ends at Hansdah, Purnia (NH-27/East-West Corridor). Bihar’s first expressway built entirely within state boundaries. Link roads connecting Samastipur, Saharsa, Madhepura district HQs.
❖ Seven Wonders Park:
An eco-friendly theme park featuring solar-powered replicas of the world’s iconic monuments, being developed in Bodh Gaya (Buddha enlightenment under Bodhi tree)
❖ PANCHAM Digital Chatbot:
A WhatsApp-based AI assistant launched by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and UNICEF designed to provide instant support, scheme information,and training to Panchayat representatives and citizens, recently piloted in Bihar.
❖ Nalanda University:
hosted India–Portugal Dialogue in Rajgir (Nalanda) to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. [Revived ancient university; inaugurated by PM Modi in June 2024; located near ruins of ancient Nalanda University (5th–12th century CE)]
- ➢ Rajgir: Also capital of ancient Magadha kingdom; site of First Buddhist Council (483 BC)
❖ Second Glass Bridge of Bihar:
will be built at Ajgaivinath Dham in Bhagalpur (first in Rajgir)
- • Ajgaivinath Dham, Sultanganj (Bhagalpur)- an ancient Lord Shiva temple known for its Swayambhu Shiva Lingam. A key stop for Kanwar Yatra pilgrims who collect holy Ganga water from here to offer at Baidyanath Dham, Deoghar (Jharkhand). Buddha statues (copper idol craft).
❖ IIT Patna:
ranked at 5th position in the “Technology and AI Education Rankings 2026” by Chronicles of India.
❖ Bihar’s First Sports Science Centres:
will be established at Patliputra Sports Complex (Patna) and Rajgir Sports Academy to improve athlete performance through physiotherapy, biomechanics, nutrition and rehabilitation.
❖ Bihta MSME Technology Centre:
inaugurated at Sikandarpur, Bihta (Patna) to promote entrepreneurship, employment and SC/ST business participation; extension centres launched in Muzaffarpur, Rohtas, Darbhanga and Munger. Ministry of MSME.
❖ Nari Shakti for Viksit Bharat Run:
CM Samrat Choudhary flagged off the run in Patna (17 April 2026) under the Nari Shakti Vandan Abhiyan to promote women-led development and Viksit Bharat participation. (106th Amendment, 33% reservation)
❖ Census 2027 Self-Enumeration:
CM Samrat Choudhary launched Bihar’s self-enumeration phase of Census 2027 from CM Secretariat, Patna (17 Apr–1 May 2026), allowing citizens to submit family details online and receive a Self-Enumeration ID. Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain performed the self-enumeration as the first citizen
❖ Ministry of Minority Affairs –IIT Patna MoU:
under PM VIKAS (Pradhan Mantri Virasat Ka Samvardhan) to train 600 Bihar minority youth in AI and Business Analytics for better employability.
❖ Nitya Pandey:
of Pipra (Aurangabad, Bihar), selected to represent India at the Asian Boxing U-15 and U-17 Championships 2026 held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan (May 2026); 55 kg, Under-15 girls; Bihar’s first female boxer to be selected for an Asian Boxing Championship. She was defeated by Kazakhstan’s Aruna Shalman in U-15 Quarterfinals.
❖ Bihar Tourism Hubs:
Bihar will develop Gaya, Rohtas and Vaishali as global tourism hubs under ‘One State, One Global Destination’, focusing on connectivity, digital infrastructure and civic amenities.
- • ‘One State, One Global Destination’ Scheme: Introduced in the Union Budget 2025–26, aims to develop one world-class tourist destination in every State/UT.
- • Gaya: Bodh Gaya (Buddha’s enlightenment; Mahabodhi Temple – UNESCO WHS); Vishnupad Temple; major Buddhist pilgrimage centre for Japan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Myanmar
- • Rohtas: Rohtas Fort (Mughal-era; Sher Shah Suri’s stronghold; UNESCO tentative list); Son river gorge; Durgawati waterfall; eco-tourism potential

❖ Project Udaan:
Patna Municipal Corporation launched ‘Project Udaan’ to provide free coaching (UPSC, BPSC, JEE, NEET) for children of sanitation workers. Funding entirely from CSR.
❖ Bihar in Gyan Bharatam Mission:
Bihar ranked 3rd nationally in manuscript verification, with 7.5 lakh manuscripts (22% of total surveyed) under the Gyan Bharatam Mission. Madhubani holds 1st position in manuscript count. Under Ministry of Culture.
❖ Bihar Nursery and Green-Tech Conclave 2026:
3-day national-level event, inaugurated at Gyan Bhavan (Patna) to promote technology-driven horticulture and higher farmer income under the theme “Parampara Se Pragati Tak.” (From Tradition to Progress)
❖ Bihar Highway Emergency Runways:
Bihar plans to develop 3 Emergency Landing Facilities (ELFs) – highway strips usable by fighter and transport aircraft during emergencies
- ➢ Planned locations: Patna-Purnia Expressway (NE-9), Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway, and Ram Janaki Marg.
❖ High-Security Jail:
Bihar plans to establish a high-security prison in Kaimur Hills region to house hardcore criminals. Kaimur Hills – Part of Vindhya Range on Bihar-UP border.
❖ 16th Hockey India Sub-Junior Men Championship 2026:
Held at Rajgir Sports Complex (Nalanda); UP won the title by defeating Hockey Madhya Pradesh 5–2 in the final.
❖ DRDO Defence Expo in Motihari:
DRDO held a 4-day indigenous defence exhibition (15-18 April 2026) at Motihari, Bihar, showcasing systems like BrahMos, Akash, Arjun tanks and radar technologies to promote Aatmanirbhar Bharat; theme- ‘Shanti, Satya Aur Vigyan Ka Sangam – Surakshit Aur Aatmanirbhar Bharat Ki Aur’.
- ➢ Inaugurated by: Radha Mohan Singh (MP, East Champaran; Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence).
❖ Ministry of Women and Child Development
organized Poshan Pakhwada 2026 activities in Begusarai to spread awareness on maternal & child nutrition, anemia prevention and balanced diets under POSHAN Abhiyaan.

❖ Apoorva Verma:
from Arrah won the Mrs India 2026 title at the national pageant held in Ahmedabad.
❖ Bihar to establish cyber forensic labs
in Patna and Rajgir in collaboration with National Forensic Science University (NFSU)
- ➢ NFSU: India’s (and world’s) first and only national-level university dedicated to forensic science; HQ: Gandhinagar, Gujarat; established under National Forensic Science University Act, 2020.
❖ Bhagalpur became Bihar’s first district to fully dispose of seized narcotics.
Drug disposal done under NDPS Act, 1985 (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act) which mandates court-approved destruction of seized narcotics.
❖ AIIMS Patna entered the Limca Book of Records 2026
for the successful neurosurgical removal of a 35-mm fish bone from a patient’s cervical spine. Operation led by Dr Saraj Kumar Singh with assistance from Dr Kranti Bhavana.
❖ Sultanganj, Bhagalpur to host a major greenfield airport.
